VerdErg awarded Innovate UK grant for global market research study

Updated: Sep 10, 2018

VerdErg has been successful in receiving support from Innovate UK to perform a feasibility study to research the global low-head hydropower market. With ca. 36% of the 217 GW total global estimated small hydropower potential developed to date (2016 UN World Small Hydropower Development report), there is a huge resource for VerdErg’s Venturi-Enhanced Turbine Technology (VETT) to access worldwide.

The findings of the study will inform and guide the technical development programme and identify key markets to direct licencing and sales. This in turn will allow VerdErg to address the UK and global need for more renewable base-load electricity generation and contribute to meeting climate and carbon commitments. As VETT is able to offer a lower cost of energy than conventional low head hydro, the results of the project will help bring VETT to developing countries where there is micro hydro potential and with it stimulate local economies allowing communities to prosper in a greener energy future. The feasibility study will be co-funded by the UK’s innovation agency, Innovate UK, as part of the Open Programme Round 3 competition aimed at projects able to deliver game-changing, cutting-edge innovations with significant potential for impact on the UK economy. VerdErg is collaborating with Qi3 Ltd who will bring their sales, marketing and business development expertise with enabling and emerging technologies. We will be launching a project page to disseminate our progress, check back soon!
